Centralia Rifle Club & Junior Division Newsletter

Volume 3  Number 2

February  2008

MEMBERS FEES ARE DUE

Reminder letters will go out to all members who have not renewed by February 15. (send $120 to Centralia Rifle Club, PO Box 465, Centralia, WA 98531) If you can get your check to us before then, it will save the club mailing costs and we thank you.

On March 1, 2008 those who have not renewed will have their numbers removed from the door security lock and have no further access to the club range.

Get your fees in right away.  The club needs you to enjoy the busy shooting season ahead.  Jack Thompson is the new membership chairman.  He has lots of ideas, but like us all, limited time.  Get in touch with him if you can lend a hand at 360-807-0403.

BUILDING REPAIR

This is the year we want to get gutters, the final side of the building tinned, and some range improvements.  Daniel Freeman, Jack Thompson, and Lee Hayes are taking the lead on these projects, and we thank them mightily!

BULLSEYE PISTOL LEAGUE

The 2008 bullseye pistol league began the first Thursday in February. (February 7, 2008).  It will run until April 17.  Contact Neil Harris 360-273-6546.

ACTION TARGET SHOOTING

Bowling Pin Shoot.  Lee Hayes is coordinating this event Randy Dills and Jeff Gillaspie are helping set it up.  A date in late April has been proposed.

SELF DEFENSE COURSE

This is going to happen.  Plans are moving forward on this.  We have quite a list of interested participants, but can always include a few more.  Tell those you know who might be interested to call Steve Carmick (748-7671) and get their names on the list.  If any of you want to be involved as participants or trainers, IT’S NOT TOO LATE.  Just let us know.  This item was tabled until the March meeting.

INSTRUCTOR’S COURSE

A NRA Training Counselor has committed.  We are working with him to finalize a date for the course in late April.   Seven members have indicated an interest, but we’d like 15 for the course.  Are you interested?  Let it be known and stay tuned.

HIGH SCHOOL RIFLE TEAMS

The High School teams season ends on Feb. 27.  At this point, W. F. West is leading in the handicap scoring and Tumwater H.S. for the overall scoring...note that practices are 3:30-5:30 Weds. and Fridays, 5:00-7:00 Tues & Thurs, Monday matches 3:00-6:00.  (Arrange your shooting times around these).

SELF DEFENSE COURSE

Tabled until March meeting.  News on this will be announced at that meeting.

STATE SHOOT

On March 22, 2008 junior shooters (up to 50 of them) will compete at our range.  Bob Fahnestock is the club presence at the shoot, but everyone is invited to check in to see how it works.

RIFLE SALE

Lee Hayes will be listing the 5 old Winchesters on gunbroker.com.

for the club.  Profits will be used to finish the replacement of stiker springs on the Anchutz as well as begin to acquire good mid (move-up) rifles.  If you are interested in purchasing a Winchester, check them out on gunbroker.com.

OTHER SALE ITEMS

The old 3 drawer filing cabinet has been sold to Brad Tarbet, but we do have some old patches for sale at $5 and $10.  Interested?  Come to the March meeting.

TARGETS

You will find a donation container for you to “feed the pig” if you can for targets you use.  Hopefully this will prevent folks from taking more than they use on the range.  We urge everyone to be thrifty, so that our dues cover our costs.  More discussion on this at the March meeting.

A BIG THANK YOU

Barry of Centralia Parks and Rec will be placing a safety fence (to keep gas from being siphoned out) around the garbage truck parked at the side of the building.  In turn, he says we can put our trash into the truck instead of having to cart it away.

WEBSITE

The site is for you to review frequently to keep up on new club activities.  Send Neil Harris items you want included, as well.

CRITICAL SAFETY REMINDER

BACKSTOP PROBLEM CONTINUES!  Our backstop is for pistol caliber cartridges only!  Even if a rifle caliber bullet is fired from a pistol frame, it will damage or destroy our backstop.  STOP DESTROYING OUR RANGE!  Rifle cartridge casings were found recently, and holes destroyed our air rifle target stand.  The door lock monitors your presence on the range.  If you want to remain a member, follow the range rules.
